What is chronic pain?
Chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts for three months or longer. At this stage it becomes a psychophysiological problem: the body gets used to it and the central nervous system produces pain. This is called central sensitization of the pain syndrome. Chronic pain occurs mainly in musculoskeletal structures or is associated with nerve compression.
Types of chronic pain
– Nociceptive — appears when an organ, joint, or soft tissue is damaged. – Neuropathic — burning or shooting, occurs when the nerve suffers, for example, with intervertebral hernia, which pinches the nerve root. – Dysfunctional — associated with mental disorders or disorders such as depression.
