Thrush, or vaginal candidiasis, is a common fungal disease caused by excessive multiplication of yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida. Many women face a situation where, after treatment, the symptoms of thrush come back again and again. Why does this happen?

Self-treatment and the wrong choice of medication

One of the most common causes of recurrent episodes of thrush is improper treatment. Having noticed the characteristic symptoms (itching, burning, curdy discharge), many women independently use antifungal suppositories or creams without consulting a doctor. However, thrush can have similar manifestations with other diseases, such as bacterial vaginosis or sexually transmitted infections. If diagnosed incorrectly, treatment will be ineffective.

What is the solution? Before starting treatment, tests (smear for flora, PCR diagnostics) should be done to ensure that candidiasis is causing the discomfort.
