Headaches can have many causes. Although hormones can play a role, they are not typically the obvious cause. Changes in hormone levels can provoke migraines — especially women, who can experience them monthly when menstruating.

What does it have to do with hormones?
Statistics show that almost half of women of childbearing age experience headaches before and during menstruation. It appears when there are changes in estrogen levels. These hormones can trigger a complex chain of reactions that includes nerves, blood vessels, and muscles. The pain can be caused by natural fluctuations in estrogen levels during the cycle, as well as infertility treatment, pregnancy, birth control pills, menopause, and hormone replacement therapy.
