There is a huge selection of paraffin candles in stores. They are beautiful, inexpensive, and burn for a long time. However, when looked at closely, there are some downsides.

A dangerous pairing

Paraffin is a product of petroleum refining, and as it burns, a paraffin candle releases a huge amount of harmful substances into the environment. This includes carcinogens such as benzene and toluene, which can cause asthma and cancer.

When benzene enters the lungs, a person experiences dizziness, weakness, and begins to have trouble sleeping. Prolonged exposure to benzene can lead to problems with the liver, kidneys, and other organs. This carcinogen negatively affects the circulatory and nervous systems.

Toluene causes acute and chronic poisoning. It affects the endocrine and circulatory systems and accumulates in CNS cells.
